Cross Platform
CrossCrypt supports full cross platform interoperability.
The application is based on Electron which makes the app work as intended on Windows, Mac, Linux. We also have CrossCrypt Terminal that supports more advanced features and is of course also cross platform. Both of the apps works perfectly together since they use the same identical protocol.
I have recently released an online version, CrossCrypt Web that works without any download and is recommended for quickly encrypting fewer files/text. If you although need specific tasks such as encrypting whole directories, then this standalone application is the only way to accomplish this because of browser limits. The key aspect here is that the encryption used is fully compatible with the other CrossCrypt software's(CrossCrypt Web App, CrossCrypt and CrossCrypt Terminal). Therefore files and text can be encrypted at any device, including Android/IOS.
CrossCrypt details:
CrossCrypt can encrypt all types of files including whole directories with AES-256 at a stunning speed of 150MB/S. The encryption method is the most trustable of it's kind and the password hashing algorithm(PBKDF2-SHA256) used is magnitude safer than regular hashing. There is also many other more advanced features, such as HMAC authentication of the files to make sure no one can modify the encrypted content, encrypted fileendings etc... So incase you are the kind of person thats a little bit extra paranoid, you probably wont find anything better than this.
Obfuscate mode is also included in the software. This is a way of obfuscating large files instantly without passwords and make them unusable, until reinserted into CrossCrypt. Please note that this does NOT encrypt your files, but simply "hides" them by for example making a video file unplayable. The reason for including this is to hide non-sensitive and large files from prying eyes. In comparison, 100GB of video files take around 4-5 min to encrypt securely whereas Obfuscation only takes around 0.1-0.5 seconds. So they both do indeed have their uses.
For advanced users that needs special features and automation, we have included CLI arguments that can be passed into the app before launch. Check available commands in the app by clicking on "Automation CLI Commands".
If you want to build on top of the source code for automation projects we have a simplified version CrossCrypt Terminal that is python based. It contains a minimal amount of required code for the encryption/decryption algorithms and is simpler to build on top.
The project is also open source! You can use this as always for educational purposes or to ensure the security and integrity of the software.
